I guess not! But you don't need to parse a sentence to understand what a word means. Though it would be odd to learn how to do one without the other.

It does. Like the example in the article, if you had never heard the word "disagreement" before, but read the word for sounds and found "agree" and "dis", you'd be able to guess from the sounds that it means not agreeing, and the "ment" would make it noun rather than a verb.

They are very much not doing that. They aren't connecting reading to the sounds the letters represent, apparently, and are instead recommending guessing and context only.

Words are sounds. Written words are transcribed sounds. If you a hear a word spoken, you'll know if you've heard it before and know what it means. If you haven't heard it before, you can look it up.

Memorizing vocabulary is a three-cueing technique, as described in the article. Learning new words is not memorizing vocabulary. Sounding out words and revealing them to yourself is definitely part of the joy reading, which is part of the joy of life, I'd say.

Wow, this is horrifying.

You don't get serendipity without thoughtful curation.

You've misread this conversation multiple times and listed irrelevant sources you obviously didn't read. Whatever you're doing with AI, it isn't helping you engage in a meaningful way, unfortunately.

Meta-studies about self-reports reflect gendered expectations. It's easy to look up all the counter arguments that cite and debunk them. I didn't say anything about dignity or self-discipline. You're building a strawman to fight.

You need to stop asking AI to do your thinking for you. You're just a bot's typist at this point.

What does chatGPT have to do with this? This is nonsensical. The way sex work functions supports my argument, not yours. How do you think being treated like a buyable object that also makes sandwiches impacts a person's libido?

www.mdpi.com/2076-328X/14... The relevant sources you cite are based on surveys and self-reports. Men are encouraged to overestimate and women to underestimate re: this, so you're just pointing to gender expectations. When they test these questions empirically, there is no gender difference.

Go ahead, let's see those serious studies. The idea that women's sex drive is weaker than men's is a Victorian idea. Prior to that, women were always understood as having the stronger sex drive. That makes a lot more sense, considering how women's bodies function.

You're characterizing men as mindless beasts without the ability to control their behaviour or think rationally. That belief that would be characterized as misandry if it weren't being used to make space for men to avoid accountability or judgment. It seems like a pretty charged issue for you, too.
October 21, 2025 at 7:04 PM
This behaviour is not some biological quandary. These are actions that come from a belief that women are objects that can be used rather than people.

It sounds like what they find unreasonable is the expectation that they a) pay attention before they are the victims themselves, at which point of course everyone needs to stop everything and pay attention, and b) care about the suffering of others.

Yeah, you asked a question and they got defensive when I answered it for some reason.

You're welcome to learn more about Canadian history, but it doesn't strengthen your argument that there are regions of Canada that want to join the US. Literally there are not. Quebec was never interested in joining the US, and Quebec is so left-leaning you might hurt yourself reading about it.
