<p>The City of Maysville and a handful of its employees are being sued by a Maysville business owner in association with an event that left his business without water for approximately 20 days.</p>

<p>The 2025-26 Kentucky high school basketball regular season has just three weeks left on the schedule before district and regional tournaments begin. In the 39th District, each of the four boys and girls basketball teams have been battling through their district seeding contests, with just a few left to go.</p>

<p>Destined to be a part of journalism history, David Thompson has enjoyed over 42 years of service to the Kentucky Press Association (KPA) prior to his retirement in December 2025.</p>

<p>As I was planning today&#8217;s missive, I fully intended to get back to writing about a couple of sports-related items. However, I am requesting your patience once again, simply because my thoughts of someone special has constantly remained in my brain and firmly in my heart for the past several days.</p>

<p>Are you looking for a formal dog? Rudoph&#8217;s black and white markings make him look like he is in a tuxedo year-round! This stylish and friendly boy loves the children who visit the shelter. He gets along with other dogs and may have a little crush on Bertha the Mastiff, available at the shelter too. Rudy is already house-trained and easy to walk on a leash. He will be easy to train because he is intelligent and treat-motivated. He is also playful and loves stuffy toys!</p>

<p>Hoping everyone is staying as warm as possible, and that y&#8217;all will indulge my thoughts on this frigid Tuesday morning. This column has nothing to do with the current sports landscape, but this is to me at more important, and it&#8217;s all I can think about at the present time.</p>

Here’s a novel idea, Mother Nature:

Tony Danza is looking for a new home! Tony is an adorable and friendly guy. He is still very much a playful puppy. His estimated age is around 8 months, and he already weighs 66 pounds, so we expect him to grow into a big boy! This handsome boy is also smart and highly trainable! He seems to be housetrained, as he does not have potty accidents in his kennel. Tony also gets along well with other dogs and loves the older children who visit the shelter. Ask Tony, “Who’s the boss?” and he would happily tell you anyone with treats is!

History was made at the Fieldhouse on Friday night.

The 1956–57 school year marked a turning point in Maysville history as local schools integrated following the Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. That iconic Supreme Court ruling included Mason County native, Supreme Court Justice Stanley F. Reed. For decades, the city operated two separate systems: Maysville High for white students and John G. Fee High for African American students, named for abolitionist John G. Fee, founder of Berea College.

When it comes to the wonderful world of sports, you just never know just what may happen next. This past weekend provided several examples, beginning on Friday evening at the Fieldhouse.

Body camera footage of an altercation between former Maysville Police Department (MPD) Chief Michael Palmer and MPD Major Chris Conley has recently become accessible to the public. The footage, which depicts the two men in what appears to be a heightened conversation following an alleged physical assault by Palmer, was followed by a formal complaint issued by Conley stating that this behavior was not unprecedented.

If you ask the vast majority of college basketball and football fans their opinion on the new era in collegiate sports, you’re certain to get more than an earful.

Less than a year ago, the General Assembly created the Kentucky Film Leadership Council, giving it the responsibility of reviewing and approving taxpayer subsidies for projects filmed in the state. The film council held its first meeting in July.

Local archery teams took to the range this past weekend in various tournaments throughout the commonwealth.

Longtime Kentucky basketball fans remember vividly a team that was given the ignoble nickname “Team Turmoil” during the 2001-2002 season. That particular team was beset with numerous off-court and on-court issues but still managed to finish with a 22-10 record and reached the NCAA East Regional semifinal as a #4 seed. The Cats’ season ended with a 78-68 defeat to Maryland, the top seed in the region, and the Terrapins went on to win the national title with a 64-52 win over Indiana in the championship game.

Ginger is a gorgeous German Shepherd girl who is ready for a fur-ever home. She is very friendly and affectionate. This athletic gal loves to run! She also enjoys car rides and asks the shelter team for them often by leading whoever is walking her toward the shelter truck. If the truck door happens to be open, she finds her way to the passenger seat and is ready to ride! This lady is great with other dogs. True to the German Shepherd breed, this girl is brilliant and very trainable.

Both Mason County and Fleming County teams played their first games in the Kentucky 2A Section 6 tournament this past Saturday.
