Mayor of Mammoth Lakes, CA. Sharing what life is like in our beautiful high Sierra town (8000’) where nature bats last. I really like Democracy and think we’d all be better off if people went outside more.
All the cuts are heartbreaking and scary- I’m sharing the ones that impact our Sierra community most immediatley to keep people informed. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/c...
Mass Layoffs Begin at NOAA
The cuts came just before a separate wave of departures was expected under the Trump administration’s so-called deferred resignation program.

Probationary employees are the newest employees of the NPS- the future of our parks. They’re all gone or will be soon. The future of the NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. America’s greatest idea. To save a rounding error in the Federal budget. 😡
Heartbreaking news… Tonight, many of our friends were let go, and tomorrow, even more will follow. Word is that all probationary employees at NPS will be let go. 😭

This is one of my big fears. People everywhere need #NOAA data every day, but where I live in the #sierranevada it can make the difference between life and death. We must protect our #FederalAgencies!
Simultaneously, sections of NOAA’s website displaying climate data have become unavailable. They are systematically going through the system, removing content at their discretion. More details to follow.

i said a few times here and there before the election that we’ll see what the mass deportation plan looks like when it’s ICE agents dragging grandmothers out of churches and, well, here we are
Minutes ago, the Trump admin revoked the sensitive locations policy that prevented ICE from carrying out enforcement arrests inside churches, hospitals, and schools.
