Beyond the verge there is a small abandoned orchard and I haven’t noticed Apple-of-Peru anywhere local to the verge.

That is interesting - locally they can be found on heathland (the habitat of RSPBBroadwaterWarren).

Similar in England - the similar Clouded Yellow still appearing - and I hadn’t realised until seeing your photo how widespread the Colias butterfly are.
