This book from @elysegraham.bsky.social is phenomenal, and not just because it enables my delusion that I - a wimpy academic entirely lacking physical capability, deviousness, and courage - would have made a great spy under the right circumstances.

A runca or spetum is the closest direct equivalent I can think of, though I think these are both subspecies of "partisan" also.
