Similar for my cousins - DHL is the only carrier that delivers to the gate, and it's quite expensive.

Considering how things worked - or didn't - before RFD, Amazon is almost certainly going make you go collect your orders from a central hub or pay a confusing, extortionate rate to a private carrier for last mile delivery. Everything old is new again!

Disney's MMO Toontown Online, between its launch in 2003 until speedchat plus rolled out in 2008, maybe? Users could unlock chat with "secret friend codes" intended for swapping irl, but children quickly used the premade speech bubbles, hops, and arranged decor to swap codes with strangers ingame.

Compare to banded tussock moth/pale tussock moth (Halysidota tessellaris) - these little fellas can also be grey, greyish tan, or yellow-brown.

Yeeeeeah, turned out private wealth *isn't* actually all that eager to rush in and dump money into the uncertain void. Who'd've thunk it!

And with research and development programs being gutted and defunded, the technology to fill this gap is...just supposed to manifest itself out of thin air?? No plans, just vibes - and the vibes are BAD.

Well heck. In grad school, I rented a room in a house where the bathtub drained through the ceiling, out a hole in the exterior wall, through the downspout, and onto the driveway. Some decisions truly baffle science!

My older kid has many classmates for whom time, finances, English proficiency are barriers to participation. So they had the option to make cards in class, as a Language Arts activity station.

They trade Valentines in my kids' school - only rule is nothing edible, and bring enough for the whole class. Kids exchange cards and party favors.

It would seem to be a strategy consistent with the Trump business playbook. He does something that harms you, and then you sue him and you sue him and you sue him and you sue him until you run out of money and give up.

One is surprised it is not simply the poop emoji.

In places like Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, universities are the biggest employers in the state. Only Walmart can outcompete in terms of jobs: www.usnews.com/news/best-st...

Loss of access to experimental drugs, harm to hospitals and clinics, labs seeking greener pastures, research results that are now freely available to everyone become confidential or paywalled, unemployment.

I believe "Trump bump in consumer confidence" is misleading. Many people were scrambling to purchase durable goods, nonperishables, larger clothes for their kids to grow into, etc., before Trump fucked the economy and sent prices into the stratosphere.

Seriously!! But I do not think these people care. It's my impression they believe they are poised to vacuum up displaced labs into their own think tanks, private research institutes, and other private enterprises, where they will be more efficient and profitable than ever before.
