I feel the latter understands quant methods/tests better. At least that’s my experience working w/ both kinds of profs. Especially when it comes to scale dev’mt. I think using IRT for old and new quant scales is a must, but so many so-called quant lids don’t even know about it

There’s a rift in quant social science atm, at least in terms of proficiency. On one hand you have researchers who use SPSS for everything and fall deeper into the methodological rituals that you mention. On the other, you have younger profs who can code and conduct analyses in R.
