Been in a really bad rut lately, so I decided I just needed to make something for fun. I kept it loose for once, and the result was something with much better energy and texture than my usual stuff, and I got it done pretty quickly. I'll try to remember this next time I need to shake the cobwebs off

I must keep beating my head into a wall. I will make my own hole soon. I cannot afford to succumb to the exhaustion. I must join them on the other side. I look back again at the holes behind me. It would be easier to jump. But much harder than to hit the wall just one more time. I’ve been beating my head into a wall. I’ve been doing this for quite a long time, And I’m not sure why.

I want nothing more than to stop, but to stop is death. Food, water, self-actualization, you name it. These all surely lie behind this wall. And the growling in my stomach is growing louder. I take a step back from the wall despite the chastising of others. Behind me are numerous holes What lies at their depths is unknown. Those who sought to find out never returned. I’m told to never go down there Not to look at them Think of them Speak of them But they needn’t worry. There is no ladder down these holes, and I’m too afraid to jump. I hear a crack and scuffle and a break. To my left, someone made a hole! They actually pulled it off. They yank at the newly loose bricks to form an opening large enough to pass through, Only pausing to wipe the blood from their forehead. I watch as they scramble through, landing in the world outside. It's not much different. All anyone can see from here is another wall This one a different shade of grey. They look back at me through the hole, grinning in well-earned pride. And begin work on their new wall.

I’ve been beating my head into a wall. I’ve been doing this for quite a long time, And I’m not sure why. I’ve been slamming the top of my forehead into coarse brick. I can feel the metopic suture of my skull deepening. With each strike it wears away at the shell, threatening to expose the yolk inside. Although by now my brain is mayonnaise. An abstraction of an abstraction. I’m beating my head into a wall. No one asked me to do this. In fact I’ve been discouraged by everyone who’s ever seen the dried blood on the bricks. No, I was told to break through it. Get to the other side. Bask in the sunlight that surely awaits No one ever said I had to use my head. But my hands are soft and weak and prehensile. My head is a more effective instrument. I’m beating my head into a wall. My pace is varied, at times confident and rhythmic and others, staccato and erratic. With great shame I take a moment to catch my breath, And look to either side of me. There are countless others facing the wall. Beating on it same as me. I can always feel the vibrations but give little thought to the source. I have important work to focus on after all. I keep beating my head against this wall. Assured by others that while my chosen method may not be best for my health, the goal is worth it. They say not to use such an important, precise part of the body, but I don't see them doing it any differently. None of us have a hammer. Besides, if they knew a better way, one of them surely would have broken through by now.
