You can't just go preaching about scalable transport infrastructure on a public platform! Think of the children!

My favorite part of these games is thinking of edge cases and working through the propagation of their effects into the rest of the game!

It would instead serve as an in-between condition for Slowed (in-turn action denial) and Stunned (all-action, all-reaction denial) as well as interacting with reactive strike or special reaction users in a potentially more granular way.

This is not like Staggered in 3.x/PF1E, where you can only take Standard or Move, but not both, which is in-turn action denial.

I feel like I'm going to get ulcers from how hard I've been biting my tongue on this.

But not being anything more than a random NPC to the ruling class is a great analogy that I might have to borrow when explaining this to "apolitical" friends.

Unpacking the conservative double speak and trying to explain it to "apoliticals" is exhausting.

Sometimes it feels like you can only engage with people after you have fully psychoanalyzed them just so they don't take you for a conservative grifter ride without pushback.

I actually did think of that writeup when I was working on this. I'll definitely give it a more in depth read through to try and tease out the design nuances for my needs.

What about you guys?

Design factors: anti-tank weapon bonuses for attacking side and rear arcs, targeting subsystems with called shots, infantry have stealth and skill bonuses against buttoned vehicle crews, vehicle crews not buttoned are vulnerable to called shots
August 14, 2025 at 5:36 AM
Soft factors: weapon firing arcs, movement arcs, vision/sensor arcs, mechanic triggers depending on the arc being targeted or utilized, special conditions (mobility kill, sensor blinding, crew injury, or equipment damage).
August 14, 2025 at 5:36 AM
Hard factors: damage vulnerability from the flanks and rear, action tax for refacing armor, circumstance bonus to defenses from the front, circumstance modifiers to attack accuracy or imposition DCs, vision/sensor ranges keyed to arcs.

Overall, the combination of SF2E PC1 and Battlecry has spun up some creative gears and I'm happy to be thinking about this stuff to the point where I'm using my lunch and breaks at work to brainstorm and scribble notes!

AFVs are the exact opposite. They are protected against shell splinter and small arms fire (AOE) but vulnerable to dedicated anti-armor attacks (aimed strikes), which could potentially cause combat to drag. I think I can solve this with IWR + conditions, but it will require testing.

The main hitch is that troops are intended to be weak to area effects but also make heavy use of area effects. So troop on troop fights theoretically go very quick; even if the enemy succeeds their reflex save, they still get walloped pretty good.
August 5, 2025 at 6:04 AM
The Skirmish rules already provide a chassis for "mounting" a troop stat block and managing actions, special abilities, and attrition during battle. I don't see why this couldn't work for an armored vehicle. It could be flavored as either standing in the open hatch commanding or desanting.
August 5, 2025 at 6:04 AM
The intent wouldn't be to replicate Battletech or WH40K in xF2E, but to tweak the troop rules to replicate the feeling of commanding a tank crew from the open commander's hatch or hitching a ride on the shoulder of a friendly mech while your allies fight alongside you.

Is it practical? Probably not. But damn do I want to roll an entire handful of dice with the chance of vaporizing whatever I'm aiming at and maybe lighting myself on fire with a crit failed overdrive in the process.

I don't even think it has to be a full martial to take advantage of it. I need to go back and theorycraft my Battle Oracle build with a Guardian dedication to see how she looks. Taunt could set up some really nasty combos with reaction spells and control abilities like Hampering Stance.
August 4, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Not entirely sold on the once per fight Intercept, especially if you are a squishy and don't have a mind for managing cooldowns. HOWEVER, getting full access to Taunt is real good.

My only beef is the CON+2 requirement, but it makes sense for how stacked the dedication is.

It doesn't help that the documentation isn't great and that a lot of institutional knowledge is transmitted purely by word of mouth on the Foundry Discord.

All that to say I appreciate that it exists; I'm just currently bad at it lol
