What happens if constitutions, as indispensable protections of democracy, themselves threaten to stifle democracy? In this new paper in @globcon.bsky.social I draw primarily on the work of Claude Lefort and Martin Loughlin to address that question.

In this article, new in @krisisjournal.bsky.social I address the idea that 'the demos' does not exist as a distinct entity. To sustain its legitimising role in democratic theory, I propose viewing the demos as a prefigurative concept.
