🔍 Findings: Disinformation slightly reduces trust in the AEC, but refutations help mitigate the damage. However, preemptive AEC communications didn’t boost trust further, suggesting high baseline trust acts as a ceiling. #ElectoralIntegrity #Disinformation 4/5

Our evidence suggests that concern, but not alarm, is warranted. In a survey experiment shortly after #Voice referendum, we exposed ~4k Australians to real-life disinformation (#voteoften), real-life rebuttals from the Australian Electoral Commission, or both. We then measured trust in the AEC. 3/5
