#BlackPhone2 fucking rules. The kind of sequel that, on paper, shouldn't really work, but actively pulls you into its thrilling Super 8 nightmares with a formal edge over the first installment that quickly made everything *far more* exciting. Surprisingly very funny, too. Give me five more.

#Cannes2025 opening film LEAVE ONE DAY has finally been released in Quebec, and it's an absolute catastrophe. Bastien Bouillon is, as always, terrific, but the "jukebox musical" aspect of it all was so painful that I considered leaving the cinema when the characters began singing. Awful.

#UntilDawn is so bad. Even as a story derived from the game, it possesses a limited understanding of the universe's mythos and replaces this complex world with novel practical scares that grow increasingly tiresome as they're constantly repeated. Thunderously boring.

Still reeling over THE WOMAN IN THE YARD, not only in how Collet-Serra conjures up some of the most evocative, expressionistic imagery I've seen in ages, but in how it visualizes the internal perspective someone has when they no longer wish to live. Danielle Deadwyler is soul-crushing. Major stuff.
