A comic strip where the cartoonist says this: “Hi Folks. Remember reading about “Newspeak” in high school? (He’s holding a copy of 1984)./Well, newspeak, which banned certain words to limit thought, is no longer just fiction! (Word balloons from the Oval Office) “I want only merit-based words! We love merit based words!” 3 word bubbles with “yes sir!” Follow. “Hundreds of words are now being scrubbed from (U.S.) government sites.” “Words Like equality, disparity, political, status, women, race…” cartoon characters are in the process of censoring the words in this panel. “So what can you do to save banned words?” says the cartoonist while three figures are slicing up words like “pollution” and “trauma” with a pair of scissors larger then they are. “Just keep using them! In public! In conversations! In text to friends!” In this panel, there are characters with bits of conversation shown like “clean energy” “mental health” “disablity” and so on. The last panel has the cartoonist say “Then commit (those words) to memory - before they’re lost FOREVER!” With a QR code to a complete list of banned words.

From Fantagraphics’ website. I’ve only read the first volume collection everything from the anthology’s first decade and some later stuff. The cover to Barry D. Rowland’s reprint of single panel WWII cartoons with the main character Herbie. The name of Rowland is at the top of the book, then the title, then an image of an impish cartoon figure with no mouth wearing a green shirt with a popped collar. Here’s the first four panels of my two page story for hourly comics day and my birthday.
Hourly Comic Book Day 11:40-Breakfast It’s my birthday! A word balloon with a question mark and another with an “X” meaning a question and the answer no. The panel has a plate with a tall slice of a “Dutch Baby” pancake with a fork to the right. 12:20 Telling the world (on discord) I Read the story Offshore Lightning & Parakeet God* Also got a phone call… *90’s manga by Saito Natzuna (this footnote is on the decorated edge of the sticky note panel). There’s a cramp doodle of me on my bed, reading a book with the window open and a lamp helping things. A view of a person couch from above, drawn on a sticky note. 1:36-2:00 Panel 1: “Read ‘bout 15 pages of Coda Chapter 1* (In smaller lettering) Long first issue…” *[Si] Spurrier & [Matia] Bergara. I’m think of continuing “Cartooning: Philosophy & Practice” to the complete 14 weeks and the conclusion.

Would anyone be interested in reading (& seeing) that here?
Photo of “An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, cartoons, & True Stories” spine has a regal style inside of a bookcase, the photo only shows this one book, with dust jacket, drawn and lettered by Seth. The words Graphic Fiction are significantly larger than any other word, everything is in all caps but in an elegant font. The colours are black, white and gray. At the top of the spine is an illustration of a hand with a pen nib above four empty panels on a page. There is a four panel comic strip in a block of two-by two, it’s at the bottom of the spine. First panel: ‘Ivan Brunetti’ is drawn in a style two circles for a nose and face and has black hair, glasses, and a black shirt, it is a big head style with clarity in mind. He is in an otherwise empty panel besides what he is reading. The way his reading material is draw suggests it’s a book. He has a thoughtful like expression but doesn’t say anything while staring at the pages. Second panel: ‘Ivan’: “HA HA!” ‘Ivan’ has a triangle for a smile with lines separating the teeth. The words appear above Ivan’s head without a word balloon. Third panel: same image as the first panel, likely redrawn. Fourth panel: ‘Ivan’: “SOB!” ‘Ivan’ now has diagonal marks above his head, as if bursting from his mouth to above his cranium, the figure is arched forward.

A five panel comic: Panel one is the words Make A Bad Comic Day with the cartoonist’s signature in an oval. The 2nd panel shows an overweight character in glasses raising their right hand with an ellipses next to them. The 3rd panel shoes the figure surprised by what they see. The 4th panel is just a pizza with a mushroom slice, black olive, and pepper. The fifth panel shows the person, mouth wide open, throwing the already devoured pizza slice down their gullet.
