Apropos of nothing, just remembered how baffled I was as a kid by Peter S. Beagle’s preface to The Hobbit: “The Sixties were no fouler a decade than the Fifties – they merely reaped the Fifties’ foul harvest.” Completely obscure to a nine-year old with no memory of either of those decades.

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.

I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt.

But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are
