It's a bit embarrassing for Britain. They left the EU on a wave of 1940s nostalgia but relying on a 2000s world order that Trump has demolished. Size matters once again and Britain's splendid isolation now looks pathetic.

Certainly in the case of Ireland it was helped by the governing FF party responsible for the irresponsible policies that led to the EU/IMF/UK bailout, acting responsibly for once and doing some of the heavy lifting before facing the inevitable near annihilation at the polls.
