This workshop is for beginners—no coding experience is necessary! All you need is a Mac running OS 10.9 or later, and a fast enough internet connection for Zoom meetings. Participants will have access to all the code and some additional coding challenges and solutions besides.

You’ll learn the basics of creative coding and how to draw and manipulate vector shapes and raster images and set type with Python code in the free MacOS application DrawBot. We’ll do a little work with variable fonts and make some basic animations as well.

This stone on display in the Römisch-Germanisches Museum in Cologne bears a public inscription honoring the emperor Nero.

It was discovered by archaeologists covering the remains of an ancient latrine.
