I was asked when did I find community with what I do. My answer was when I found my community of creatives. After a momentary flutter of imposter syndrome, they reminded me that I belonged on that panel. (But the whole weekend has been surreal!)

This panel gave me life. Look, these creatives have meant a lot to me. The wisdom and passion of Asia Simone (illustrator of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Wreck and Roll) and Tony Weaver Jr (I can’t keep his book, Weirdo, on our library shelves).
We also did a panel Wayne had pitched to NYCC, Young, Gifted, and Whack, a deep-dive conversation exploring the intersection of hip-hop, fantasy, comics, and improvisation. This panel would have been my answer to the last time I fanboyed (on the inside, I kept it professional. Mostly.)

Since I was in town for the signing, we had a chance to check out Wayne Brady and Taye Diggs in Moulin Rouge. What a completely magical show! There was a snafu with the tickets resulting in us getting can can seats. I’m pretty sure my entire view was an HR violation…

I got to see a lot of old friends and made some new ones. I’m looking forward to hearing what people think of our story about Mother Abagail in “Abagail’s Gethsemane.”

I did a signing event at Books are Magic with the amazing Nat Cassidy. There was a last minute mix up with his schedule, causing Wayne Brady to have to miss (though he sent along a video).

Someone asked me not too long ago if I even still wrote horror. I told them I was just in an anthology by Jordan Peele and now in one for Stephen King! The End of the World as We Know It is out now!
