I’ve been thinking today about the twin necessities of compassion and accountability in education. We need high standards for the children, we need compassion for our staff. The two can be uneasy bedfellows!

Today was a perfect cross section on school leadership in the UK in 2024. Gritting, mopping, patrolling, meeting talking, ‘phoning, observing, duty(ing)… just not very much teaching.
