If you’re in Christchurch next weekend and feeling brave, join me and the NZ Antarctic Society for a midwinter polar plunge at New Brighton Beach to celebrate Christchurch’s connections with Antarctica!

Ever since my winter in Antarctica, I’ve been obsessed with auroras. Thankfully, I can see them close to home!

Had a great time last weekend visiting the U.S. scientific icebreaker- the Nathaniel B Palmer. She docked in Lyttelton harbour (New Zealand) to resupply before sailing back to Antarctica to resupply Palmer Station. This is now the fourth icebreaker I’ve had the pleasure of looking around!

This is the training regime undertaken by the first German to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole. It was awesome to listen to Roland Krüger speak about his adventure where he covered ~1,000km over 50 days in Antarctica. Absolute legend

The first emperor penguin I saw (back in 2019). You probably can’t even see it, but it was one of the most memorable days ever

A New Year’s Eve spent over Antarctica, coincidentally right above Scott Base. A significant and hugely fitting way to close the door on one of the best years of my life ❤️. Happy new year from my blue sky to yours.

It turns out that if I birdie the first hole, I play exceptional golf. A golf goal of mine was to one day have a score card with no 6’s on it! After playing the game for around 25 years, I’m stoked that I did that today! My second best round ever!

The mighty Drygalski Ice Tongue in Terra Nova Bay in Antarctica. Can you tell which way the current and the wind are going? To put this in perspective, it’s about 50km long and between 12-24km wide…
