Coincidentally back in ‘79 when singles were about £1 that’s now the equivalent of almost a fiver when adjusted by CPI.

In the 80s, bands had to re-record their track and perform to that, not the single. Musician union rules stipulated that if an artist played on the track they had to be at the TOTP recording. BBC sent a rep to the studio & I visited a load of these with my dad and met some great bands.
