Generic Boulder meteorologist. PhD/MS from UNL, BS from Valpo. Would rather be on a mountain or watching a wall cloud right now. Opinions my own (or stolen from a nearby marmot).

The world would be a better place if we all spent more time looking at cool stuff in the sky.

Saw three tornadoes and some neat supercell structure near Hyannis, NE today. Hard to believe I was snowshoeing above treeline yesterday.

It was a great day to snowshoe up to Blue Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness! Even saw a horseshoe vortex and two snowshoe hares!

And now a confirmed TOR as that boundary is ingested...
April 18, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Interesting boundary going straight into the Lincoln supercell's inflow. Where was this during TORUS?

Another one:

Supercells that maintain their intensity while their inflow is full of precip like this are fascinating.
April 3, 2025 at 1:46 AM
The spread in the WoFS ensemble for this event is fascinating--some members have a lone supercell, others have nothing, still others have several storms. One interesting signal from the last few runs is that if something gets going south of the Red River, its ceiling could be especially high.
