Excited to have a new story out in the world! When I first heard Muzammil tell of how his family uncovered a lost Silk Road treasure I was hooked. Even more amazing is how he and his family have used that discovery to help their community reconcile a difficult past. #india #silkroad #ladkah #kashmir
The ancient discovery that put a Silk Road city back on the map
After unearthing a rare collection of highly prized Silk Road artefacts, a family in the Himalayas has opened a museum dedicated to one of the fabled route's final traders.

A fragment of a pear shaped Rhyton vessel with a painting of an octopus. Ceramic experts suspect that the pot was made between 1550 - 1490 BC. The octopus likely pays homage to Minoan artists who lived on the island of Crete. From Iklaina, Greece in 2022 for The New York Times #archaeology #greece

Had a beautiful time at Christie’s in London last week. So honored to have a few photos hanging on the walls there about a descendant community working with archaeologists in the Utah desert to recover an important history that was lost and is slowly being recovered. #archaeology #photography

An archaeologist screens for artifacts from dirt excavated out of a 19th century dugout Chinese house on the outskirts of Terrace, Utah. Photographed for Smithsonian Magazine back in 2020 when ash from forest fires kept the sky a yellow tint. #photojournalism #archaeology #utah #sciencejournalism

Thinking back on some stories I worked on last year. What fun when K Magazine in Athens asked me to do a feature for them about the Peruvian Amazon. It offered a wonderful opportunity to learn more about conservation issues, isolated tribes, and efforts to help.

I’ve been thinking about this story I wrote for Archaeology Magazine a few years back about how rock art in northern Australia portrayed how people experienced the end of the Ice Age. Such a wild study archaeology.org/issues/may-j...

Just getting back from a wild few weeks of work in Kashmir and Ladakh researching a some new stories. An unexpected highlight of the trip was stumbling across a polo tournament in the shadow of giant Himalayan peaks. #anthropology #fieldwork #journalism #himalaya
