Cars driven by people pollute more than the new self-driving cars, and when they are parked they are empty and take up tremendous amounts of valuable public space. We are already filling out streets with empty, polluting cars.

When someone drives their own car in the city, they contribute to traffic and use space on the road in two segments: 1) going somewhere (normal contribution to traffic) and 2) driving around crowded areas for 5-30 minutes looking for parking. Waymos etc. only contribute to #1.

In cities where street parking is underpriced (which is to say, most of them), there are plenty of cars driving around looking for parking at any given moment.

Honestly I think this is something AI would be so good for. Operator dictates, AI tidies it up so it can be put up on the screens and announced in a clear voice.
