Scale of the problem around “opt out” inventory - compared our latest programmatic yields vs fully consented users and opt out inventory CPMs are around 90% lower.

Fill rate is also substantially lower.

It’s one of many reasons why content or pay is all too tempting a model for pubs currently

Privacy from a publisher perspective is a topic we all know is important. The reality is, the incentives aren’t there for most to drastically change anything yet. We talk a good game as an industry but our actions around data collection and usage fall well short.

Over the next week or so I’m going to go on a reshare blitz when I see AdTech, advertising, media, etc posts.

So if you’d like tag me on your posts.

I’m really just trying to get this place to be more active.

The only way that happens is if we find each other 😂

Consent or pay is a polarising topic. Regardless of your view, what you must understand is that it is broadly a simplistic solution from publishers to a very complex set of challenges (that are growing)

The issue above all else is that it doesn’t address those challenges long term

Curation POV (from a publisher) - still total ambivalence.

On one hand, clear some parts will be additive and beneficial. Also clear others present a threat and are at detriment of direct sold model and general autonomy.

There is a line somewhere. Problem is, I don’t yet know where that line is

YouTube algorithm, suggest me something relatable and accessible to my own life.

YouTube:

(Note also the add the above. I’m hoping the algorithm informing this ad is equally inaccurate as the one fuelling the content rec)

Arcane and likely boring privacy update worth keeping a close eye on, the new Data Bill (DUA) at 2nd reading stage.

It includes a provision to possibly exclude the requirement of consent for the processing of some data. E.g., possibly measurement in the future. Big bad tech implications, perhaps.
What's changing and what's the same in the UK's Data (Use and Access) Bill from a GDPR compliance perspective?

Reluctant to feed the Bluesky algorithm any data about myself because right now my feed is just pictures of space and cute owls and I’m kind of ok with that

I don’t think there is much of an ad tech community here yet. Or at least, not one I can find…
