i’m a radical pacifist by religion, but even so—this disgraces us all. insult to injury is that we collectively decided to fund this person’s education! and now these greedy bigots are trying to line their pockets by kicking our finest to the curb and robbing them on graduation day. what a disgrace.

it’s a fascinating and surprisingly empathetic read from Ruth Graham, but Renn tells on himself almost immediately. Everything he has to say about the “negative world” and how to behave in it has been the christian conservative’s playbook since the Scopes trial (and, arguably, emancipation).

I’d argue that while language often supports binary thinking, it isn’t the basis for it. There’s a fundamental relationship between binaries and power; it’s not the only form of it, but power through division is notoriously effective.
