I don't think Bluesky is coming back. The people still posting here are mostly just automating copies of the posts they do on Twitter & LinkedIn. Bluesky stayed invite-only too long and missed its chance.

You start applying almost a year in advance, so this would be for the 2026-27 school year.

Searle doesn't seem to provide any definition of "understanding". He just asserts that any computations occurring outside the human brain must not be "understanding". The Chinese room thought experiment is just reasserting his belief without adding any evidence or logic.

Yes. Maybe there's a bunch of books that map each Chinese character to a 2,000 dimensional vector. Then there's millions more books full of linear algebra that you perform on all those vectors and matrices. That system seems like a form of intelligence that "understands" Chinese.

The thought experiment seems vague enough that doing trillions of matrix multiplication operations by hand should count. That would get you an LLM.
Of course, you could also reduce the human brain to an even larger set of math equations.
August 10, 2025 at 10:59 PM
If the Chinese Room can process information that produces the same outputs as a human brain, then it makes no sense to claim it lacks "understanding". What's so special about the atoms in our brains that other atoms can't do?

I didn't know there was a book. The Netflix show is very popular with 4-year-olds.

That's how elections work. The party in power 10 years ago wanted an economy based on high-paid, high-skilled engineering jobs. The party in power now wants an economy based on low-paid, low-skilled fossil fuel extraction jobs.

The UK can rejoin the EU but the damage to America's credibility will last forever.

You were being extremely rude for no reason when I had never interacted with you before. That indicates you had some kind of emotional response. I guess the other possibility is you are just a very rude person who is unpleasant to interact with.

Then why were you so angry at me for pointing out that Newsom was on podcasts with them?
March 31, 2025 at 11:17 PM
What are you upset about?
March 31, 2025 at 8:30 PM
Trump is such a gift to the Chinese Communist Party. He's torching 80 years of America's work building alliances in the Pacific & handing all the power to Xi Jinping.
March 31, 2025 at 8:29 PM
I was apparently wrong about the details, but those details actually helps my argument. If you're angry about a liberal going on a right-wing podcast, you should be even angrier about a liberal inviting them on his podcast.
March 31, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Are any of those podcasts willing to let them on? I don't think they would turn any down if they were invited.
March 23, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Are there any examples of lib-brownism? There's a zillion examples of people on the far-left crossing over to the far-right, but I can't think of anyone on the center-left doing that.
March 23, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Governor Newsom went on Kirk & Bannon's podcasts, and those people are much worse than Hanania. This politics of refusing to talk to anyone on the other side doesn't work.
March 23, 2025 at 5:21 AM
I don't think he's associated with the movement. He just has a podcast that one of them went on. Pete Buttigieg goes on Fox News. We shouldn't be attacking everyone that talks to conservative media. We have to expand the tent.
March 23, 2025 at 5:11 AM
There was a viral post a few days ago showing that like 90% of popular podcasts were right-wing. If you want to get your message out to a wider audience through podcasts, you can't limit yourself to the tiny number of left of center podcasts.

The screenshot is allegedly 7 years old. Did you take this 7 years ago and then decide to release it now?

"genetic inferiority" is a wild leap from a post that never mentioned genetics.
March 23, 2025 at 5:02 AM
Can you give examples of people like that?
I don't think it's realistic to deplatform everyone with views like that, but I think someone who posted something like that would at least need to apologize & explain themselves before being accepted as a democratic strategist.
March 23, 2025 at 4:59 AM
*Enraged by them
You're like the right-wing idiots on Twitter who get enraged by pronouns.
Also the people on both platforms that go after people's physical appearance. Those are also easy blocks.
Social media is only tolerable if you block the trolls & bigots
March 23, 2025 at 4:54 AM
I got 6 blocks out of this so I'm happy. Can more of you people obsessed with avatars post here so I can block you. I want you out of my feed.
