Love this account, but this is a little reductive - for Japanese the jōyō kanji list includes 2000+ characters and each has multiple pronunciations and readings dependent on position in word / sentence and surrounding characters….which is pretty hard to memorise!

Astonishingly he’s come out of the talks with a speech and position that helps Putin. Who could possibly have foreseen…?
