I am so impressed with and grateful to my son and his classmates for their willingness to use their voice and advocate for an important issue.

The students presented statistics on the economic benefits of NIH funding to our state of Pennsylvania and how educational institutions that rely on NIH funding are some of the biggest employers in the state. 6/

He told the Senator and his office about my lab’s research, the importance of its outcomes for the people in my lab and the survivors it will help, and how the spending freeze has disrupted our work. 5/

My son’s group met with Senator Dave McCormick and his office. My son suggested the group talk with Senator McCormick about the NIH budget cuts and spending freeze.

This week, my 15 year-old son visited Washington, D.C. for a school trip. During the trip, he and his classmates had the opportunity to meet with an elected representative for their community and discuss an issue.

The last few weeks our family has been talking over dinner about NIH funding cuts, the disruption to my research that helps pediatric cancer survivors thrive, and the potential economic impact on our state and country.
