Ok, apparently "lists" do not work in bluesky, so here the starter pack link, this you should be able to use as a #battchat feed: go.bsky.app/FBjHPQZ

That’s not an official announcement… that’s based on cost predictions, right?
October 20, 2025 at 8:12 PM
But is that really only an issue for non-Asian companies? Because if an new gigafactory is build in China, there is the „A team“ joining to bring it up and running. So also there, the knowledge is limited to small teams. It is probably more extreme in the EU/NA but nevertheless…

A great sentence I heard recently regarding this: OEMs enabling users to track the warranties against there own contracts is like grading your own homework. A bit spicy, but still…

Interesting, I guess that was before the era of 4 to 8h BESS… because especially these durations should eat into the use cases of gas.

Thanks for sharing that! Curious about the Gas & BESS projects. What is the general thinking behind that?

Same as Sila and Whoop a couple of years ago.

Great graphics, would be great to see what the ROI or the payback time would be for these different countries and regions to bring in the individual financial situation and incentive.

EV demand lead to engineering efforts which drove down costs. EV requirements lead to higher density batteries driving new chemistry developments.
But I think with EVTOL and stationery storage, Data centers and consumer electronics there are other industries driving development now.
So, agreed.

Is there any information on how the get the Tesla cells out of the pack?
August 25, 2025 at 9:22 AM
„Battery usage“ and „energy held by battery“, what does that really mean? That is such a confusing language used on their charts…

I assume these are not pouch cells as mentioned in here?

Maybe even more precisely: „time to high production yield“ for today’s chemistries and formats is the only thing which matters.
Northvolt did not fail because of costs, but missing scale and low yield.
And high scale and yield drives down costs and creates your Cashflow for more scale.

Interesting that they chose a pouch cell format. I assume this is based on more experience with that cell format for LG. Or would there be another benefit?

If you want to know more about the Lithium Mangenese-Rich batteries by GM, this is the press release:
news.gm.com/home.detail....

It's beyond me why anybody would report on this without linking to the press release or without even mentioning key things like the 35% nickel/65% manganese composition.
Why LMR batteries will change the outlook for the EV market
Lithium manganese rich battery technology offers the promise of EVs with long-range at substantially lower cost.

And “virtually no Cobalt.” Strange framing.

Thanks for putting batteries into Thermodynamics classes. Feels like this only rarely done when we need more and more talents for the topic. Batteries made thermodynamics fun for me…
May 2, 2025 at 8:13 PM
Extremely sad news.
But also mind boggling, it sounds like a full dependency on a single customer…

Nuclear wouldn’t have helped during the gas crisis triggered by the war

Fact check: No, the nuclear phase-out did not lead to an increased dependency on natural gas

That’s for me the challenge with ASSB, from about 500 miles „standard tech“ to 600 miles „new tech“ is no revolution anymore as it was always discussed with ASSB. Also the 391 Wh/kg on cell level, will be interesting to see how that plays out on system level with a „pneumatic system“ …. But 👏

Could you share the link to the whitepaper please? Because while the initiative is great, we have been assuming that it is so far a „toothless tiger“ since there are no auditing rules and methods out there. So enforcing the rule will be challenging.
February 14, 2025 at 8:26 PM
I would assume this is intentionally designed like this, not just because people are not smart enough.
Cell phones batteries just need to have a high energy density and a short lifetime is totally fine (unfortunately). And from a user experience, you do not want people to mess around v limits..
