I guess that's right. I misread that one. Though, you could use a result without it being a black box. I think "we use a similar argument to xyz except..." is pretty common.

I don't think this is the right list of reasons. Sometimes the result is general so that others can use it in a broad class of settings.

Alternatively, the generality could help with external validity. A result that *only* works with the uniform might be contrived.
