I’m a local Poppy Appeal organiser and a lot of it comes down to how many volunteers are in your area. The RBL relies on the branch network to distribute and sell poppies (outside of the big retail chains) and I can only imagine its dwindled at lot since mass conscription fed the membership

Somewhat unrelated, but as a young officer during the Iraq and Afghan wars I took my troop to see the Chelsea pensioners. By that point most of them were more Cold War Warriors than WW2 veterans. They were asking our lads “what is it like?”. Quite the reversal from my childhood
