As a nonprofit grant writer, everyone I know that is even remotely in the nonprofit field in any capacity is freaked out. My LinkedIn is a mess today.

I mean, they didn't stop me from playing video games, D&D, or even LARPing when I was into that, and they ultimately encouraged me to do things that I liked, they just didn't want to listen to me talk about it at all. It felt weird for them to enable my hobbies without taking even a little interest.

My parents were supportive of my hobbies in that they bought me games and the like, but when it came to taking interest in the things I was passionate about, my dad would say "know your audience" (code for "I don't care enough to listen to you ramble about your special interests, please shut up").
