… maybe 350k words, the whole story, without the appendices? I’m not sure, but it’s not nearly as much, word count wise, as I would have thought, compared to modern classics.

Yeah I mean I haven’t read it by sight in maybe a decade, but I do vaguely recall not noticing the split as much back in the day. Probably got biased about it because of the way Jackson handled it in the films.

The Andy Serkis read audiobooks go by very fast. The only critique I really have remaining is that I still don’t like the way Tolkien splits the plot in half in The Two Towers.
