"I'm here to talk to everybody, not just you! I mean, you look cute, but I am married! Michelle's fine, too!"

OMG, Obama.

Noticed quite a few errors in Deadline over the past few weeks...

...like this one, where they forgot to edit out their, well, Google Docs edits.

Sign of the times, I guess.

#BREAKING: All three FCC Commissioners have voted to issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that effectively sets the stage for the United States to wind down its current digital broadcast standard in favor of NextGen TV.

It is absolutely wild to me that our current and future civic leaders openly admit to using ChatGPT to solicit advice on policy matters.

(Apparently, journalists do, too, as Fox's Martha MacCallum acknowledged.)

#BREAKING: Fox News Channel, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News say they will NOT sign the Pentagon's new policy that requires journalists to not solicit information from military employees.

It's almost like Katie Porter and Donald Trump read the same "How to Handle the Media" textbook.

Hours after this story was published, Univision CEO Daniel Alegre posted a photo of himself next to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr thanking him for advocating for the "Hispanic voice and their access to critical news and information."

Univision is still off YouTube TV.

"Democrats have shut down the government" reads the message posted on the U.S. Department of Justice website for the Eastern District of California, which includes Sacramento and Fresno.

Trump fired the top federal prosecutor within the same office in August.

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are following, reading and citing our reports from @thedesk.net, as are hundreds of corporate executives and policymakers throughout the country.

Are you?

Wow.

Multiple sources tell me Nexstar-owned ABC affiliates aired commercials promoting Jimmy Kimmel's return on Tuesday, even though the show was replaced with extended news programming on those stations.

The ads ran during ABC's prime-time shows, and were inserted by the network for all stations.

If Brendan Carr truly believes that LOCAL TV stations should have LOCAL control of their programming, he must agree that KOMO, the Sinclair-owned ABC affiliate in Seattle, should be able to decide for itself whether to air Jimmy Kimmel’s show — not be ordered around by execs hundreds of miles away.
September 23, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Except that isn't what happened, and I think FCC Chairman Carr knows this.

Local TV stations did not make individual decisions based on the best interest of their local markets.

The corporate owners of the local TV outlets made unilateral decisions that affected all their stations.

To paraphrase this exchange...

Kari Lake: Matthew Keys is fake news.

Attorney: Okay. But did he report the truth here about the layoffs of Voice of America workers?

Kari Lake: Well, yes.

Recent deposition of USAGM’s Kari Lake.

Excellent. No notes.
September 23, 2025 at 4:27 PM
In the Jimmy Kimmel situation, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr keeps trying to make this a case of local stations choosing the best programming for their communities.

But they aren’t. Their corporate overlords are making decisions for all local stations, not on a market-by-market basis.

For some reason, Sinclair's Charlie Kirk memorial special is also discussing Billy Graham.

#BREAKING: The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) are suing the Trump Administration for union-busting at the U.S. Agency for Global Media and Voice of America.

This is not surprising. Perry Sook, the founder and CEO of Nexstar, is one of the largest contributors to the NAB's Political Action Committee.

Chris Ripley, the CEO of Sinclair, is also a major NAB PAC donor.

Follow the money.
