At a Starbucks kiosk at San Diego Comic Con, my coffee was accidentally handed to Richard Hatch (BSG’s original Apollo), who then handed it to me.

If you listen to the LA radio feed of the Dodgers game you can hear the organist playing in the background; pretty sure they just played the Twin Peaks theme, then transitioned into “let’s - go - Dodgers”.

I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis.

This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day.

Ohio: the state senate has passed Senate Bill 1. If the state house passes it (they want it) and the governor signs it (he says he probably will), this will fundamentally change how universities and colleges function state-wide. This is bad.

Dreamt I was hanging out with Stephen King and casually talking about writing longhand vs typing on a computer; just writerly types shooting the shit. The whole conversation I was thinking about how I could get an open invite for me & my preschooler to use his pool over the summer.

These are strange days and I’m pretty stressed out; one of the things keeping me afloat is building a playlist called “weird smooth jazz.” Chick Correa, Donald Byrd, lots of unknowns (to me). Main criteria: would this sound dope as background music in an episode of Rockford Files?

Was thinking fondly of Tim Walz today; could use some more of those summer/fall empathetic dad videos these days. About politics, but also about automotive care, about fair food, about Prince.

I read PIRANESI by Susanna Clarke and it’s very good! The narrator is often isolated, but tries to predict what other characters might do. The reader knows more than him about the “plot,” but he’s written with intelligence - he figures things out in a way that feels right and true to the character.
