Fabulous loan from the Palazzo Barberini while Caravaggio’s ‘St Francis in Ecstasy’ is in Rome, Holbein’s (with workshop) portrait of Henry VIII from 1540, now on view at the Wadsworth.

The Wadsworth Atheneum’s great founder and patron Daniel Wadsworth (1771–1848). Wadsworth donated his collection to form the first public art gallery in the United States • Thomas Sully (American, born England, 1783-1872) “Daniel Wadsworth,” 1807, oil on canvas, Gift of William P. Wadsworth, 1976.79
