My understanding: many of the units along the hill that used to house students now house families - a major demographic shift that occurred in 2020-21.

I think UNB and STU might take them up on building more housing, but there is no federal or provincial money to help get it done and no internal funds either. Then there is also risk, which the unis can't afford to take on: will the residences pay out LT? So they rely on the market instead.

Yeah, I suppose because she thought being Canadian would protect her. In any case, she is right, this detention is undeserved. As it is for everyone going through it. The US needs immigration reform, its society relies on the work of people without rights.
