I haven't even touched on so much ... including his work with the Keith Jarrett trio ... like I said, it would take days to post my favorite moments. Please share your own! www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3CZ...

Here's another ECM favorite, with Jan Hammer and John Abercrombie. Hammer had recorded this tune a few years earlier with Elvin Jones, that version is also great :3 www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOZA...

Speaking of ECM, Jack was an MVP over the label's lifetime, playing on dozens of records. Here he is on Collin Walcott's first album as a leader, a beautiful record all around www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCws...

Jack was one of the MVP drummers in this early period of jazz-rock or "fusion". Here he is with Joe Henderson, John McLaughlin and Miroslav Vitous:

8 months later the band had changed. Grossman was replaced by Gary Bartz, Keith Jarrett replaced Chick Corea, and Michael Henderson had replaced Dave Holland. (John McLaughlin sat in on this gig as well). Bartz's solo here starting at about 5:00 has some of my favorite Jack moments.

He recorded numerous albums for Soul Note in the decades that followed, many of which featured his drawings and paintings. In 2010 he died at 84.

Dixon was a brilliant musician and his advocacy for Black music, outside academia and within it, will be an inspiration for generations to come.
