My favourite bit of the journey to college. It’s everything you want from a cycle crossing
1. Shared pedestrian/cycle space that’s only slightly wider than a set of handlebars - Tick
2. Multiple right-angle turns - Tick
3. Badly paved cycle path that spits you out into the oncoming traffic - Tick

I highly recommend this, very readable but packed full of detail on how local politics and Londoner’s shear bloody mindedness affected civil defence. #histbookchat

Pre Christmas visit to my parents has generated this treasure.
My grandfather’s diary from his time as a prisoner of war in Singapore and on the Burma railroad that nobody in the family had any idea existed. I just need to find a way to decipher the tiny spidery handwriting now

Half arsed book review

An excellent book with 2 criticisms:
1. needs about 5x more maps as the detailed descriptions of allied advances did my head in
2. Octavo size in paperback is very hard to read in bed as it’s too floppy to hold with one hand (stop sniggering at the back)

Strong field for my year but I’m going for
