Sheldon Whitehouse is a really smart guy. He's genuinely smart — there are quite a few senators who do not have anywhere near the sort of legal intellectual firepower this guy has.
Like all politicians, sometimes Sheldon plays dumb. Fine. But scolding us? As if we're the fuckups? 🧵

Right before finding out which way SCOTUS comes down on the question of starving millions of children? That's the worst, stupidest time to cave. It's really weird that Dem Senators are posting pretending like they don't know that.
Sheldon Whitehouse absolutely understood what Jackson, J did. 🧵

it's really quite something that you're yelling at me, a person who doesn't know you at all. anyway, when i block you, your reply will disappear. and i'll never have to deal with you again. bye

If SCOTUS actually had ruled against feeding 42 million people, if you need to surrender at that point? they're actually starving millions of children so I accept any Senator saying, 'I will go on a hunger strike, but I can't let them starve four year olds'
We were about to get those court orders 🧵

I think there are a lot of really smart lawyers in the Senate who absolutely did not come away from the stay order believing — genuinely, actually believing — that Justice Jackson would do anything other than maximize the odds the judiciary kept people from going hungry. 🧵

And by caving, i.e. by folding in exchange for nothing meaningful on healthcare, the suffering was done for nothing? The deaths weren't avoided...
I don't think the administrative stay from Justice Jackson was a sign to surrender, quite the opposite. It was smart, strategic, harm reduction 🧵

A bunch of suffering was endured by folks who are all much poorer than any US Senator, in the name of avoiding all those needless health care deaths. Folks were struggling to pay bills, buy food, take care of their families.
Trump / MAGA were correctly getting the blame from the public 🧵

Yes, but it ... probably won't move the needle? So if you are someone for whom energy is more limited, it isn't likely to be a high ROI move. (If you're represented by a Democrat, they'll vote no. If you're represented by a Republican, they'll vote yes because Donald tells them to. )

Thank you. The last guy turns out to have been incredibly wrong with what he diagnosed me with — the most recent set of labs I've gotten has been .... a wild ride

I genuinely don't know what to do with this kind of ignorance that comes into my replies — I'm not seeking this shit out — and loudly proclaims itself to be right

Unless you're a dual boarded dermatologist and you know what the fuck is up with my skin — if that's you, you should feel free to reach out. Again, if and _only_ if you're a dual boarded derm. If you don't know what that means, you aren't one.

Just a reminder that patreon.com/mattbc is the primary place I live on the internet, and that the leadership of this platform have proven themselves to be morally bankrupt.

This means Rick Scott does not believe there should be any of what the ACA calls "essential health benefits" — things an insurance company *has* to cover

Says all plans would have to cover pre-existing conditions. But if states set the rules, some might choose not to require coverage for thinks like pregnancy, or prescription drugs some people need to survive, and so on…(as it was pre-ACA)

forcing SCOTUS to block SNAP benefits (at which point Senate Dems could have thrown in the towel, blaming the Court).
And instead, Senate Democrats, under the "leadership" of Schumer, capitulated. surrendered. snatched defeat from the jaws of victory
