Another animated Library of Congress stereograph. "Skating on the lake, Central Park, New York, N.Y., U.S.A.". Circa 1902.

When I was in college, I skated on Lake Winnipesaukee once. There were only four of us on the ice. We'd cleared off a section of the […]

I'm writing final exams today, but this leaf is on my table and making me look at it so I figured it wanted you to look at it, too.

#noisevember is almost over! Here's another guitar-based thing with live Csound processing, another experiment in getting waveforms to interfere with each other. Using a new method here, but it's a little subtle, but the whole thing came out nice, I think […]

#noisevember! Tried a little live-processed flute. I've had this flute for 50 years, since 4th grade, but have not played it at all for many years. Processed it with Csound, doing the delayed-copies-of-the-signal-interfere-with-each-other-spectrally thing. I […]

#noisevember! I revisited the Littlewood polynomial sound from day 2 of Noisevember. I thought to investigate a different sort of polynomial. Here, instead of polynomials with coefficients all ±1, the polynomials have coefficient ±1/(n+1) on the x^n term. As […]

When I want to relax, I like to make animated gifs from Library of Congress stereographs. This is an 1894 photograph by Robert Bonine called "Tired of Play".

#noisevember ! I know, my Noisevember tracks haven't been consistently noisy. Then there's this. I built this little box a few years ago with six Schmidt trigger oscillator, just with a single knob to control the pitch of each. Quite noisy by itself. So I […]

I had a good ride today, around the north end of Lake Washington. Stopped at my favorite stopping place around the lake and took my usual picture. There were lots of ducks (along with the always-present cormorants) and two bald eagles showed up and made everyone nervous!

It's #noisevember ! So here is a two-minute piece of noise made from the roots of all degree 15 Littlewood polynomials (i.e., polynomials with all coefficients equal to ±1). https://soundcloud.com/matthew-m-conroy/noise-from-roots-of-15-th-degree-littlewood-polynomials

Two new mosaics for my mosaic print series. One made from text from a very old, tiny bible, and the other from text from an old, German art dictionary. Cut up and sorted. https://www.madandmoonly.com/doctormatt/sorted.htm

Anyone have any insights into short-term air pollution spikes? Yesterday, this happened in Seattle. We've had moderate smoky air for a week or more, but yesterday there was this spike of much more dense PM2.5. There was no weather happening: no sudden change […]

It seems I have a walnut tree in my yard. I can't find it. That is, looking at the trees in my yard, I can't find one that is definitely a walnut tree. But I found this on the ground, and I must have come from a tree in my yard. It was under the huge cedar […]

A few years ago, I was walking around my neighborhood and came across some items marked "free" on the sidewalk. One of the items was a nice, old tricycle that I thought would be perfect for my friends daughters. There was also a beautiful old pail full of […]
