Stop calling it "The West". This is a direction on a compass. The US is no longer strategically aligned with Europe. And Europeans, who are mostly strategically aligned, must do the choosing.

In 2022, the US had 324 overdose deaths per million population, this is higher than any other country by a huge margin. The UK had 102, and that’s the highest in Europe. Germany had 24. I suggest that US politicians look at their domestic circumstances before seeking a problem overseas.

The bit of reality that isn’t yet spreading is that if we rejoined, we’d do so on similar terms to Bulgaria. Too many people dream that we can rejoin exactly where we left. It will take decades to regain our former status.

Beautiful on the outside. Utterly impractical on the inside. There is nothing functional that you can do in those rooms. You just walk through and admire the ceiling.
