I'm going to buy the Swift Power Pack once I finish Unwrap. Would you recommend doing the 100 Days of Swift online first, or is it covered in Hacking with iOS already?

If I were American I’d want to see the restoration of the Fairness Doctrine and extension to cable/satellite news near the top of that list. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairnes...

Here is Apple‘s guide: support.apple.com/en-us/102623

Without seeing the device there’s not much more anyone can say. If you have another Mac you can try to put it in DFU mode and Restore, depending on type and age.
If your Mac doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your Mac doesn't seem to turn on after you press the power button, follow these steps.

It doesn't bother me as I have a massive Dock and Spotlight for the rest, but a colleague who misses Launchpad says launchie.app is the best replacement so far.
Launchie - The Launchpad Replacement macOS 26 Deserves
Launchie brings back the power of Launchpad with drag & drop reordering, custom folders, and customizable hotkeys for macOS 26 Tahoe. Free download for Apple Silicon Macs.

It also worked for Mette Frederiksen in Denmark, which I think is the more likely inspiration. Strict immigration policies marginalised the far right, although the Danish centre left went a lot further than Labour. They also succeeded in presenting their policies as a defence of the welfare state.

Look up Windows Subsystem for Linux, which Microsoft has made for Windows 11. Once it’s installed, you can download several Linux versions to run in the Windows Terminal, from the Windows Store. GUI support was patchy when I last tried WSL a year ago but you had a full Linux terminal.

I’ve done it on my Mac mini and iPad but not my MacBook Air or iPhone. macOS 26 seems more stable and polished than iPadOS 26. Some iPad apps (Deutsche Bahn, Mactracker) crash. I backed up macOS settings with a script and all my files and I don’t regret it. I wouldn’t go near iOS 26 right now.

Conscription would provide numbers, but the cost & complexity to reintroduce it would use up any extra defence spending/capacity. Is a conscript army really better than investing in a stronger professional service (like US/UK/France) or a joint European deterrence?

I would actually prefer to take the train, but literally every Deutsche Bahn train I’ve taken in the past 18 months has been delayed or cancelled entirely and I don’t see any improvements on the horizon. Luckily the line I use most for work isn’t run by DB.

I’ll definitely look at that one when the time comes, and I think Fiat have a reasonably-priced model.

I paid just under €12,000 for a Dacia Sandero in 2017. When I come looking for a replacement in the coming years I would love to buy an electric car, but my budget won’t be massively higher. The mistake German car makers have made was to market EVs as luxury rather than everyday cars.

For the past few years we have made our own. A jar of Robertson's mincemeat does all of Christmas and it lasts long enough that visitors can get us one at Christmas for the following year. You can even order from Amazon DE but delivery is a killer. The crust is easy enough to make in Germany.

One of these things is not like the others - why would she regret promoting open borders within the EU?

Twitter accounts might always become available if they are inactive (they can always change their TOS in future), so I wouldn’t randomise the password and would consider logging in every few months to be safe.

It’s an improvement to be sure, but there’s still this artificial limit (within the Kursk region) that’s not proportionate to the areas of Ukraine the Russians can target. Here’s hoping Storm Shadow will be approved for whatever the Ukrainians see fit to use it. I know a bridge for starters…
