Handel’s “Messiah” on the program tonight at @nyphilharmonic.bsky.social. Pretty damn good soloists and an absolutely superb chorus led by Jane Glover. I know this is a holiday warhorse but when it’s done well it’s something else. Besides I’m very much on #TeamHandel. Nit

Sad to say goodbye to this little ray of sunshine today, very suddenly. Sleep well, little girl. Hope to see you again on another plane, if I should be so lucky.

So great seeing Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello tonight at Town Hall, talking all things “Strangers with Candy,” with Kate McKinnon moderating. Some great stories and background. I’m a total weirdo so I’ve passed the love of this show onto my daughter.

A few pics from another masterful show tonight by the great Richard Thompson in Poughkeepsie.

More from #NoKings in New Milford CT

#NoKings starting soon in New Milford CT. My favorite part so far? This lady grooving out to Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power.” One toothless Trumper (red hat) going around and calling us communists.

Underrated gem in Redford filmography: “Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here” from 1969. Smart Western noir from Abraham Polonksy, who had been blackballed as a result of the Red Scare. Robert Blake plays the title character, all hormones and youthful defiance. Great shootout scene at the end.

So good - the entire series really but I especially love Vol. 1. #jazz

Tonight’s installment of Redfordfest: “Sneakers,” a 1992 espionage comedy. Fantastic cast, good pacing and great music by Horner and Branford Marsalis. Some scenery chewing but an enjoyable watch. Ben Kingsley is the villain, this time with a man bun. Also features JEJ, Poitier, Strathairn.

Redfordfest movie #2: “Spy Game” from 2001, co-starring Brad Pitt. Taut, complex global spy thriller. Redford plays a CIA agent one day from retirement who has to pull a covert operative - Pitt - out of a Chinese prison. Entertaining stuff with some nice supporting performances.

Planning to re-watch some Redford films today. Started with “The Great Waldo Pepper” from 1975. What a gem! Some absolutely thrilling flying sequences and he’s at the height of his good looks and charm. Stellar supporting cast too.

One of the all time great opera recordings, dark and intense from the drop of the needle on the overture. Absolutely stellar cast and pacing. If you have the idea that Mozart is just easy and breezy this is the antidote. #opera
