i can confidently say that utilitarianism asks me to save many more drowning children than i actually do. my failure to follow a moral code is different from a doubt in the moral theory

if there were too many children drowning for you to save them all, you would effectively have to save "as many as you could", where _could_ does a lot of heavy lifting

there is a threshold where you would be so tired of saving children that to try to save another would be suicide
