Who can tell me which organization's run of No. 1 prospects this is?
November 7, 2025 at 4:18 PM
For each organization, you will find the No. 1 prospect for all applicable seasons as well as each player's position at the time he was ranked and career @fangraphs.com WAR total through 2025

Each team also has a summary section, like the Braves shown below:

Nick Kurtz just turned in the 15th best monthly slugging percentage EVER in July among players with at least 100 plate appearances.

SoCal power Corona High produced two top 10 overall draft picks in the same class:

Seth Hernandez and Billy Carlson

That had never been done before

Ethan Holliday joins older brother Jackson as a high first-round pick.

Only BJ and Justin Upton have a lower cumulative selection number among brothers drafted in the first round.

Oklahoma high school shortstop Eli Willits is the youngest player ever drafted No. 1 overall.

This draft was the 61st ever.

Career @baseball-reference.com WAR leaders of the Integration Era through age 29.

Good shorthand for "five-tool superstar."

Or in the case of Trout, Bonds & Mathews: four elite tools and a fifth good one.

Actually, I don't know how strong Mathews was at 3B, but he has 8th most G at position.

The Brooklyn Cyclones' May 6 lineup contained eight of the Mets' preseason Top 30 Prospects for @baseballamerica.com

The ninth player is a rising talent.

Meet the Mets' High-A lineup that is setting a standard of excellence for the organization.

Hello, black ink for Pavin Smith's OBP!

It looks like he's not officially qualified for the batting title, but Smith's .447 OBP is the highest in MLB for batters with at least 120 PA.

Lefthanded throwers are batting less in MLB.

2011–2013
30,178 plate appearances on average

2022–2024
22,577 plate appearances on average

The trend persists in the full-season minors as well.

I identified seven reasons why this is the case.

Nolan Arenado is the correct answer.

He hit 331 home runs between 2014 and 2024 to lead all MLB hitters.

Good job by those who guessed correctly.

If you don't think Arenado and Machado are future Hall of Famers, then I don't want to heat it!

Rafael Devers ranks fifth in Red Sox franchise history for home runs by a LH hitter. He could rank fourth by the end of this season

Fenway is tough for many LH power hitters

*** % of HR at home ***

47.6% Ted Williams
45.8% David Ortiz
52.4% Carl Yastrzemski
51.3% Mo Vaughn
43.3% Rafael Devers

Tigers LHP Brant Hurter has a pair of three-inning saves among his three appearances this season.

Dennis Eckersley is generally regarded as the first one-inning closer. Since Eck's first big relief year in 1988, the record for three-inning saves in one season is seven, set by Duane Ward in 1990.

I saw my first game at Charlotte last week.

Truist Field has a little big league feel with its open concourse and skyscraper skyline.

The park sits on the edge of downtown, beside the football stadium. Views on the third base side are best.

Just 15 LH hitters have a 100 wRC+ or better from 2022–2024, min 500 same-side PAs.

Of the 15, seven are (or have been) outfielders: Alvarez, Soto, Tucker, Schwarber, Nimmo, Bellinger and Kwan.

Lower to 250 PA and you get Nootbaar at 110 and Harris, Kepler, Greene and Yelich hugging the 100 line

A similar phenomenon exists in MLB outfields today.

More players than ever are working their way into the outfield mix. This includes traditional OFs and the increasingly popular INF/OF.

The @stathead.com table below shows seasons with most players with at least 50% of games in OF and min 250 PAs.

Some fantasy players bemoan the decline in stable closers.

I look at the flip side: More closer chaos equals more opportunity to catch a lucky card as cycle through closer candidates.

A total of 39 pitchers recorded at least 10 saves last year, one of the highest totals ever
March 31, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Any discussion of teams that would be viewed differently today had the wild card existed in their time would have to include the 1980s Mets.

From 1984 to 1990—seven seasons—the Mets had 34 more wins than any other MLB team.

Pitching was their strength. Their 3.34 FIP led MLB for the sample.

Creedence Clearwater Revival may be the finest American singles band

Every household in the U.S. used to have the Chronicle CD

Yet, CCR somehow never had a No. 1 hit.

Like CCR, here are five Hall of Famers who finished runner-up for MVP twice—but never No. 1

Just seven players in MLB history have more seasons of hitting .300 with 30 home runs than Mike Piazza.

This is just bananas when you consider that Piazza:

(1) was a catcher
(2) in the National League with no DH availability
(3) whose home parks were Dodger Stadium and Shea Stadium

The complete list of active players with multiple 20-20 seasons in their careers, per @stathead.com

I don't think I would have guessed J-Ram at No. 1 if given 10 chances.

Also of note: Witt and J-Rod are 3-for-3 in going 20-20. Carroll can join them this season.
