first time seeing this in HD, which meant seeing how wildly inconsistent the animation quality is from shot to shot in full view. absolutely brutal and nihilistic show in the back third, i can see where yoko taro and others get it from. bravo, tomino (and kanada)!

saten my beloved, still really enjoy most of the anime-original episodes, especially the final arc and how it rounds out Level Upper from the manga by giving Kiyama a proper send-off, along with all the other goofy eps in the back half. also, yamauchi's ep whips!

while this suffers from some wonky pacing at points, the new charas and general tone are stellar, and show what only direct involvement from Toriyama himself can bring, alongside some of the best production values the series has seen outside of movies.
Thank you, Toriyama.

i have little new to say about s1 these days, but it's a humble start with a lot of heart, and there's still bits in the final stretch that get me fucked up. also, discotek noelle's new TL does to elevate things with more unique character voice, highly rec'd! still peak

one of the most obari-ass obari OVAs ever made, also has one of the most batshit insane abrupt 90s OVA endings i've seen for one of these by far, great tits, great robots, great action, what the fuck was that script little bro

a real return to form for the series, and while I have some misgivings about the bifurcated (and elongated) mission structure that the mid-mission checkpoints allow for, they also provide the chance for some of the most bonkers setpieces in franchise history.

went into this 4-episode OVA knowing virtually nothing aside from the author going on to write Mouretsu Pirates, and came out the other end with a surprisingly good and fun SF kaiju romp with a truly iconic giant robot girl design. easy rec for Ultra series fans!

pure strain hot blooded caravan shmup gaming, got the 1cc on normal without much fuss and enjoyed every second of it! i would def recommend this as a great "beginner" shmup alongside games like crimzon clover and eschatos for people looking to get into shmups in general.

profoundly uncomfortable and darkly funny, Simon Rex absolutely nails the intensely greasy dirtbag energy demanded of Mikey "Saber" Davies, and the uncinematic nature of multiple scenes really sell the discomfort, i gotta watch more sean baker if his other stuff is this cutting

whoops forgot I watched this last week, enjoyed this weirdo pure strain horror shinbo OVA with a fresh eye, especially fun the ways in which it feels like a precursor to visual motifs continued in Madoka as well as iterating on soultaker's, cool shit!

went in expecting a goofy comedy based on the name and premise, what I got instead was an intensely moody and compelling crime movie with a very unique protagonist for the genre, also RZA's score is worth the price of admission alone. don't fuck with the pigeons!

very smartly made and more concise than the previous two games in the Holy Trinity, big fan of how it ties the mechanics of the game's economy into your Ace Style (do you want to do war crimes for more $$$). also Zero is an all time final boss track

it's peak, while the release period for this was protracted to a frankly criminal degree, i cried so much i can't even stay mad. wonderful capstone to isakusan's work on the game!

still a cool show, though to nitpick a bit I felt like the more dramatic episodes didn't hit as hard for me this time around, it just felt a bit basic compared to Otome and i'm really looking forward to rewatching that as a result. also, haruka my beloved

cute little food anime adaptation with a killer OP/ED combo and some creative visual flairs here and there, though it's held back by an absolute mood killing stalker chara being the primary POV through which we see the enigmatic and funny koizumi. could've been better!

what if ace combat 4 had More? greatly appreciate the expanded focus on story and compelling setpieces here, even if the lack of mid-mission checkpoints does lead to some annoyances with waiting through a bunch of (sometimes) unskippable dialogue. incredible game!

what can really be said about ac4 at this point? a true classic of arcade dogfighting games, with the semi-dynamic radio chatter, incredible music and hand-drawn interludes doing a lot to elevate an otherwise simple story to greatness. wish the maps were smaller tho

zeiram, times two! excellent sequel that adds quite a bit of extra flair to the proceedings, with a slick new design for the title monster, a cooler suit for iria, and an all new dirtbag guy in fujikuro (lol). even better setpieces, choreo and effects work too!

after initially dropping and refunding the game for having a crappy shootdodge, i went back and gave it another chance after loving I Am Your Beast by the same dev. mid gameplay, excellent story and music! while my complaints about the length stand i def rec giving it a shot!

another Naoko Yamada classic, totsuko is another in a long line of unique protagonists for her as a deeply self-motivated and faithful individual whose synesthesia is worked into both the compositing and music of the film, which is a great goofy, yet bittersweet time. amen!

it's more jumping flash!!! lots more great surreal imagery in this one that feels as much an influence on games like yume nikki et al as LSD is, also the english voice acting for the player character being from some generic white dude is very funny to me, great little time!

somehow never saw this one before, i can't believe they just put unedited footage of jim carrey in this movie and didn't even use cg or anything! jokes aside, funny movie (very of its time) that makes great use of early 90s cg to mimic classic squash and stretch animation
