Great analysis Keith. So it appears this was done now rather than wait until January to ensure the Pistons had more cap space than teams with $12.8 million NTMLE, giving them the most flexibility.

I was thinking once a team makes 15 threes then every made field goal counts for 2. If a game is within 10 with 2 minutes to go, reinstate the team's ability to make 3 point field goals. It doesn't seem like the NBA sees this as an issue though.

People could also argue that the 3 point heavy offense Boston plays is bad for the NBA as well and needs to be legislated out of the game. Be careful what you wish for.
