For example, a study of the French creche system is brought up, but the Economist author does not mention that this is an observational study (the authors deploy an IV strategy that driven by month-of-bird and municipality fixed effects - which could be problematic)

Knowledge of the policy space among academic economist is pretty low, given it is a hard topic to study well. That leaves the door open for perhaps well meaning but misguided, uninformed analyses with no good referee back check
