Busy Beaver 5 was solved by a group of mathematicians and amateurs who worked together on their Discord server. Here's the screenshot of the moment when mxdys, a (still!) anonymous user on the Discord, solved the problem using a proof assistant program. pbs.twimg.com/media/GR-RbT...

Last year, @benbenbrubaker.bsky.social wrote a story about how a bunch of people on a Discord server solved a huge, important computer science problem.

We just published a video about the story and now a bunch of new people are joining that Discord server in excitement 🥹 (sorry mods, lol)

There are many challenges in media right now, but there’s nothing like getting together with a huge group of smart people to motivate and inspire problem-solving. I can’t wait to apply all this knowledge in new approaches at Quanta. #SXSW, you were wonderful. I’ll catch you next year.

I spent last week learning everything I could at @sxsw.com.

It was inspiring to hear from @rose.bsky.team about how the folks at @bsky.app are building a world of expanded social media user and publisher options on this platform.
